Double Vision Frequently Asked Questions!

General Usage

What are the benefits of using Double Vision?

[+/-]
Double Vision allows you to view video at a custom transparency while you work in other applications.

This is great for:

  • Maintaining your full screen real-estate without putting windows beside eachother and being forced to watch in tiny little windows.
  • Keep articles and web pages visible to read while you work on projects, and while you wait for items to load etc.
  • Watching tutorials while you perform the steps and lessons.
  • Browser-based video-conferencing while you work.
  • Watching video without being obvious to those in your workspace.

Can I watch Netflix movies using Double Vision?

[+/-]
Absolutely!

Netflix has their own 'Movie Player' which is not compatible with Double Vision. Luckily, they have recently allowed people to start watching streaming movies using a 'Silverlight Player'. You can opt-in to the Silverlight player at the following address: http://www.Netflix.com/silverlightoptin. After opting in, you will need to download and install Silverlight (it's fast!) then re-start Double Vision.

Can I browse the web with Double Vision?

[+/-]
Absolutely!

Just like using a normal web-browser, you can surf your favorite websites just like always. You can check the news, sports scores, stock tickers or whatever else, with or without video. Meanwhile, the entire time you can set the transparency level to allow you to 'work through' the websites.

Can I watch local videos (on my computer) using Double Vision?

[+/-]
Double Vision allows you to watch local video transparently just like online video. The requirement is that the local video files must be in FLV (Flash Video) format. Files that are not in "FLV" format (.mpeg, .mp4, .avi, .mov, etc) will first have to be converted to FLV format. This is due to those formats not supporting alpha channel control that Double Vision uses to make things become transparent.

Don't worry, Double Vision has compiled a list of several free FLV conversion appliations. Click here to view.

Is there a Getting Started Tutorial?

[+/-]
Yes, you can view the tutorial in a few ways:

  • When you first run Double Vision, you will be asked to step through it.
  • From the Double Vision player, click the "Help" Menu and choose "Getting Started".

[+/-]
  • Each code can be used only once.

Why does Hulu auto-full screen give a 404 error?

[+/-]
Due to code and page name changes on the Hulu.com website, version 1.0 of Double Vision causes the "auto-full screen mode" to fail for Hulu videos. This problem was fixed in version 2.0. Why are you still using version 1.0 anyway?? Download Double Vision 2.0!

What are the system requirements for Double Vision?

[+/-]

How can I get sound back after coming back from 'Quick Hide' mode?

[+/-]

For those of you using Windows 2000 or XP, the way that 'Quick Hide' mode works is by lowering your volume level down to 0. The problem is that in Double Vision Version 1.0, when you restore Double Vision from quick hide mode, the volume is still set at 0. To fix this, you will need to go into your Sound settings and raise the volume back. Double Vision 2.0 fixes the problem although it still seems to happen in rare instances. Users running Vista and Windows 7 do not have this problem.

Why can't I view Flash files when I run a 64bit OS and Double Vision 1.0?

[+/-]

Some 64bit OS users have reported cases where Flash Player does not work when they run Double Vision 1.0. This is due to Adobe not offering a 64bit Flash player yet.

Have no fear though! current versions of Double Vision have addressed this and come highly recommended.

Why is the Progress Bar not accurate when converting videos?

[+/-]

The progress bar is only a very rough estimate on remaining time. It is there to give you some sort of idea how much longer you have until the conversion is complete but it is by no means exact.

Why does the video player have problems playing converted DVDs?

[+/-]

We have done extensive testing on this issue and it seems that no Flash Video Player currently available can handle full length converted movies perfectly. You may find that the time scroller cannot be moved and other issues that caused because the video files are so large that come from converted DVD movies. This will only improve as technology improves.
